About the Owners of the Farm Bakery & BBQ
Tracy comes from a family of bakers, and through the years has worked for her aunt’s baking company. In 2013, when their infant son fell ill with a digestive issue, she turned to baking to help with the family finances. When Tracy was six months pregnant with their fourth child, she walked into Brenneman’s Meat Market and asked them if they would sell her baked goods. They said yes. Joe Brenneman proceeded to walk over and pick up a Little Debbie and said, “this could be you someday.” There were a lot of tears and late nights, but they were enjoying what they were doing and slowly through word-of-mouth, the baking business grew.
At the time, Jim was working for a landscaping company for which he has an associate degree. He would help with the baking before and after work. In the summer of 2016, he was permanently laid off. With Jim’s past experience in the food industry, they decided to expand that area of the business. They purchased a cooker similar to the one they used to cook chicken on at their church, and they started selling chicken at The Huntingdon Farmers Market. They included some weekends at their home selling chicken as well. Slowly, brisket and pork were added to the menu, as well as various sides.
Expanding to a Bakery in 2018
Expanding to a Bakery in 2018
As their business began to expand, Tracy and Jim needed a larger location in Alexandria. Their food inspector mentioned that the Spruce Creek Bakery could be an option. In the summer of 2018, they obtained this capability to increase production.
The FARM continued to grow and another opportunity became available. The mechanic in the garage beside the duo’s house was retiring, and the owner stated he would be willing to sell. They are now working to purchase and renovate this location into a bakery and food stand. The FARM Bakery & BBQ looks forward to continuing to serve our local customers in this new location. They will be opening the renovated Alexandria location in November 2020.
